What do you love about working at 1000 Mile?
I love that I have so much flexibility in all aspects of my business. I can set my own hours, work from anywhere in the world, spend time with my family and have a bigger range of products and suppliers than ever before. This means I can be confident that my clients are getting the best value from me.
What made you decide to jump into the travel industry and why?
I have always loved to travel and organise holidays so being in a job where I get to talk about travel every day was appealing. I love researching and learning about obscure places that people ask about – however this can be an occupational hazard as your ‘must visit’ list is always growing.
What is your favourite travel memory?
There are way too many to choose just one. A couple of memories that stand out would be being on safari in South Africa with a lion laying down right beside me (not even a metre away!), skiing in Canada at Christmas time was just magical, and jet skiing around the islands of Bora Bora was an unforgettable experience.
What has been your most challenging travel memory?
My Mum left her passport on a plane when we flew from Cairo to Luxor for a day trip – trying to track down the plane and get her passport back before it left Luxor and get it safely to us at our hotel was challenging – all while trying not to miss out on seeing the Valley of the Kings and Queens.
What’s your favourite airline to travel with and why?
Air New Zealand as they have the best safety videos and their service is always great.
What’s your favourite travel perk working as a travel agent?
The occasional upgrade is always a great perk, although they don’t happen as often as some people might think! I have also been fortunate enough to go on some incredible famils including one to Bora Bora which I don’t think could ever be topped.
What’s next on your travel bucket list?
I would love to see the Northern Lights and sleep in an igloo!
